Back on top - Luther Vandross Luther Vandross - Dance with my Father: LP (J Records)

Luther Vandross is a name that when mentioned you'll hear the voice of love, the smooth baritone singer's troubles has always been a fascination with the public and recently the multi-grammy winning artist has been front and center in the public spotlight for his much publicized stroke and subsequent coma.

Luther was in a coma for the better part of 3 weeks before waking up a few weeks back but the good news is that he's on the mend as he can open his eyes, mouth words and nod his head. Even better is that Luther's latest CD 'Dance for my Father' debuted at No.1 on Billboard Top 200 Album charts a few back as well

Garnishing rave reviews and rightfully so Dance for my Father sees Luther going back to his earlier endeavors with some soul searching to bring forth a true Luther masterpiece.

We are introduced to the set with the mellow ballad 'If I didn't know better' taking you through the troubles of friendship mistaken for relationship. Next is 'Think about you' a love song for all love songs, 'If it ain't one thing' features Foxy Brown, one of four guest appearances on the album that includes Busta Rhymes on 'Lovely Day' and Queen Latifah on 'Hit it again'.

The highlights on the album to me though has to be the delightful 'She saw you' wonderfully written and produced, this track stands out on it's own for me as it has all the makings to be a big hit. Another standout is 'Closer I get to you' the late 70s classic originally sung by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack featuring Destinys Child Beyonce Knowles.

The classic ballad gets some new life pumped into it with Luther and Beyonce coming together to add a more modern feel. Beyonce never sounded better as she progresses to grow with her voice as she settles in on the lyrics and with playing the role of the legendary Donny Hathaway you know no other voice than Luther's was better suited for the track.

Other notables include 'Buy me a Rose', 'Apologize', 'Right in the Middle' and the title track. The album as mentioned earlier is out now and I do recommend you get this latest Luther disc. It's one for your listening pleasure.
