Jill Scott returns to the studio to record new album

Neo-soul singer Jill Scott is back in the studio to record music. After taking more than a year off and getting married in the process, the Philadelphia native has learn more about singing and enrolled in music classes in her hometown of Philadelphia.

"I'm starting to write again for this new project, which is probably going to be two albums at once," Scott said backstage at the Shortlist concert. "It's starting to come fast. It's a lot of information, a lot of songs at once, but I'm ready to rock and roll." "It's a lot of classical influences, strings and drums and lots of percussion," she said. "I've been learning more about my voice. I've been listing to [Qawwali singer] Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and opera starKathleen Battle. I want to see how far this voice of mine can go. I'm checking out Rakim and just paying attention to those kinds of artists that really have it, that can really tell a story through their voice."

Now Scott will channel that energy into the follow-up to her Grammy-nominated Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 and the double-disc Experience: Jill Scott, which included 10 new tracks. There's no title or release date for the project yet, but Scott said to expect something by spring or summer 2003.

J-Lo to announce engagement to Afflect

Is she or isn't she inquiring fans want to know? No less than 3 months out of her old marriage has ended rumor has it that that singer/actress Jennifer Lopez is at it again planning to marry current flame - Oscar winner and actor Ben Afflect. The rumor mill got some added fuel to the fire after she made an appearance on MTV's TRL where host Carson Daly asked her whether or not she and Affleck are to be married, her slyly response was "I think everyone will know soon enough."

News magazine Entertainment Tonight is reporting that a "source" close the couple revealed that the engagement's already a done deal. Needless to say, reps for the couple are keeping a tight lip. Lopez married restaurateur Ojani Noa in 1997, then choreographer-dancer Cris Judd in 2001. Both marriages ended in less than a year. Diane Sawyer's Primetime interview with the baby-got-back Lopez will air Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.

Bobby Brown is arrested again

Singer Bobby Brown was arrested on last Thursday in Atlanta for speeding, driving without a valid license and possession of marijuana. Brown was driving his black Cadillac SUV on Peachtree Road in the Tony Buckhead area of Atlanta at around 2:35 in the morning. Police clocked him doing 52 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone and arrested the singer not only for speeding, but, upon further inspection, for driving without a valid license and possession of less than an ounce of gangja, according to police reports.

Brown posted his $1,300 bail and was released... directly into the hands of Atlanta's neighboring DeKalb County authorities. Brown had failed to appear in DeKalb County Court after a 1997 arrest for similar offenses: DUI, speeding and other offenses. Brown quickly posted a $10,000 bond and was released.
