Craig David comes up empty handed @ the 'Brit Awards'

After winning 3 MOBO awards last time out on the awards circuit, Craig David comes up empty handed this time around after being nominated in a record 6 categories at the 2001 Brit Awards held at Earl's Court on Feb. 26th.  David, who recently signed to Atlantic Records in North America, was nominated for Best British Album, Best Dance Act, Best Male Solo Artist, Best British Newcomer, Best British Single, and Best British Video. The big winner though was ex-Take That member Robbie Williams who took home the most honors, winning three of them.

During the ceremony, presenters
DJ Pete Tong, Elton John, and U2 paid their homage to the singer with some kind words of their own. Meanwhile, during his performance of "Fill Me In," David took a stab at the British voting academy, dropping into the lyrics of the song, "Six nominations but no Brits this evening."

What happened to Omar I don't understand why the "Soul prince of London" (as I call him) didn't even get nominated what's wrong with these people (wake up will ya) surely one of the most overlooked artists to come along in a long time.

Eminem heading for film and divorce

Mega rap superstar Eminem feels it's time for another career this time as an actor. It has been reported that the rapper who recently was the winner of 3 grammys and a Brit Award has been offered 4 million dollars to co-star with DMX in the forthcoming film "Lazurus"

The film was originally developed as a DMX vehicle and  was scheduled to begin shooting in January but there's no word yet on when the studio plans to start filming if Eminem decides to accepts the offer.

Eminem's making the plunge to film wouldn't be much of a surprise considering his recent venture into new media. His Internet cartoon, "Slim Shady World," can be seen at Hookt.com. It's also been reported that Universal and Imagine are developing an Eminem bio-pic, in which the rapper would star.

Although Eminem's film career may be on the rise, it's apparent that his marriage has once again hit the skids. Two months after he and his wife reportedly reconciled for the sake of their daughter,
Kim Mathers filed for divorce recently in Macomb County Circuit Court in Michigan.

Joe's latest 'Stutter' claims top spot on Billboard's Top 100 chart

Joe's latest single the remix of "Stutter" featuring Mystical claims the No.1 spot on Billboard's Top 100 chart for the second straight week. The single is Joe's first to top the covernted Billboard Top 100 chart and his first 'double' as the song has topped the RNB chart as well.

His CD "My name is Joe" has been doing rather well as of late and it comes as no surprise that it has to do with the success of the new single but  will it hold on to the top slot for a 3rd straight week we'll have to wait and see.

Eminem the big winner @ the awards

Speaking of Eminem, what a year for the young lad from Detriot. The youngster had a monster week as he won big at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards as well as the Brit Awards. He took home 3 Grammys and a Brit Award to top off his excellent week of wins and with the Soul Train Awards just around the corner could still add even more silverware to his mantle.

Not that his record sales has been slacking as of late but these wins will no doubt boost sales even more. What's next for the youngster well as I reported earlier it seems that he will take a stab at acting so we will look out for that.

The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards: and the winners are....

The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards was held at the Staple Center in Los Angeles this past week and there were a few surprises to say the least.

The dark horse winner of the night was legendary rock group Steely Dan (who now consists of Donald Fagan and Walter Becker), who up until last night had never won a Grammy, gobbled up the album of the year and best pop album awards for "Two Against Nature" (Giant) their first studio set in almost two decades. They also won best pop performance by a duo or group for the track "Cousin Dupree." Pitted against the likes of fellow veteran Paul Simon and a crop of young chart-toppers such as Beck, and Eminem, the pair seemed as surprised by their album of the year victory as anyone. Said Walter "I thought Eminem was going to win,"

Performances were also on the topic list as Openly gay artist Elton John came under intense criticism from gay activists for agreeing to perform with rapper Eminem during the Grammy show. Their duet on Eminem's song ''Stan'' was one of few performances that drew a standing ovation from the audience at the Staples Center Arena. Also garnering such praise was an excellent performance by Moby, alongside the beautiful and lovely Jill Scott (who unfortunately did not win on the night - can you believe it?).

On the RNB side D'Angelo's ''Voodoo'' won for Best RNB Album of the Year and his song, ''Untitled (How Does It Feel)'' won for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Destiny's Child also won with "Say My Name'' for Best RNB Song and Best RNB Performance by a Group. Macy Gray won the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her song ''I Try', while in my opinion Jill Scott was robbed blind for the Best New Artist honor which was given to singer/songwriter Shelby Lynne, who said and  I quote, "it took13 years and six albums to get here," in accepting the award. "I stand here tonight representing nothing but music."

I am appalled and amazed that this could take place. To me the New Aritst category means exactly that, a NEW ARTIST that's just entered the music scene and not someone who has been in the industry for 13 years and has 6 albums under her belt. It makes me wonder just what the voters of the academy was drinking or smoking......must be coke (if you catch my drift). See you next week

T.D.
