Mariah Carey brought out of contract with Virgin/EMI

Not needed - Mariah CareyWell as I reported last week Virgin Records has terminated its relationship with Pop/R&B Diva Mariah Carey. In a brief statement that was released on Jan. 23, EMI the parent company announced the multi-album contract, which would have paid the singer a reported $100 million, was amicably settled for $28 million. Carey will also retain $21 million paid to her for her benefit at the onset of her contract with the label.

Carey was in attendance last week when her second film, "
Wisegirls," was screened during the annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The feature, in which Carey stars opposite Mira Sorvino and Melora Walters, is due to open later this year in U.S. theaters everywhere She will be among those taking part in the pre-game activities prior to Super Bowl XXXVI, Feb. 3 in New Orleans. The singer will have the honor of performing the National Anthem.

Donnell Jones latest is 'Outta my head'

Donnell Jones Donnell Jones returns with a brand new track called 'Outta my head'. The song samples the classic Issac Hayes hit 'A few more kisses to go' to boot and it's full of the usual trates we've grown accustomed to from Donnell and with Donnell handling writing and producing credits, this is sure to be another sure fire hit for the Chicago born native.

Taken from his forthcoming set 'Life goes on' (his 3rd release for Laface), the album is scheduled for release Mar 3rd so I suggest that all fans of Donnell make way to their nearest record shop to pick up a copy.

Amad Jamal's blowing up 'LA City'...

Hiphopper - Amad JamalAmad Jamal or AJ (the rapper and not the guitarist) first came to light with the Soul Survivors (DJ Khalil and RaSudan Daaood) track “A Mad Jam 4 All” which became a favorite in the LA hip hop scene back in '92. With some detours with Immortal Records' "Next Chapter" Compilation and pit stops along the way with the S.O.L.A.R. Panel, he comes full circle, on his own with his latest offering 'LA  City' (featuring D.U.) a track dedicated to his hometown of Los Angeles.

The song's taken from the album of the same name and features some notable tracks including What I need and Motivation. Not a bad set overall worth your listening ear if you're keen. (Don't overlook to quickly)

Ashanti to drop debut album

Up and coming - Alluring AshantiYou've heard her on the late Big Pun's "How We Roll"; Caddillac Tah's "Thug Love" and "POV City Anthem"; as well as Vita's remake of Madonna's "Justify My Love" taken from the Fast And The Furious soundtrack", and now Ashanti (last name: Douglas) shines on JaRule's latest no.1 hit 'Always on time' and steadily climbing the pop and R&B charts as well.

And with success comes opportunity as the young lass has signed a deal with Murder Inc and is now working on her debut album to be released through Def Jam. The first single is 'Foolish' a catchy floor mover that features the Debarges 'Stay with me' as the backbone and the Glen Cove, New York native is scheduled to tape the video for the song on January 29 and 30 in Los Angeles. Look out for this one could be big.
