The Source Awards - and the nominees are...

It's that time once again  for all of the hiphop world to come together into one area and hand out sliverware to those deserving. The 3rd annual Source HipHop awards is just around the corner and one wonders what's in store this year. Who can forget the major diss Suge Knight (head of Def Row Records) from the west coast  sent out to Shawn 'Puffy' Combs (the head of Bad boy) on the east coast in '99 or the brawl that broke out during last year ceremony ending in the police APD for E-40

This year the founder of the Source magazine David Mays says that will (hopefully) not be the case this year.  He's hired top security firm the Fruit of Islam security firm to handle security and plans on reducing the number of invites by 1,500. He's also moving the show from Los Angeles to Miami. Mays has also hired influential music video and film  director Hype Williams to head the creative team to inject some much needed power into the live performances.

Leading the way in nominations is Outkast and Eminem both grabbing 5 nods each followed by Snoop Dogg, with four nominations, and Jay-Z, who has three nominations. The show will be broadcast Aug. 29th on UPN.

D'Angelo and Lucy Pearl.....together?

Can it be true? Rumor has it that soul crooner D'Angelo is pegged to replace the now departed Ali Shaheed Mohammed of Lucy Pearl. With the recent departure of Dawn Robinson (replaced by Joi) the original founding member Raphael Saadiq seems as if he will be starting from scratch even though the band is less than 2 years old

What's caused the recent demise of the band it yet uncertain maybe the chemistry between the members wasn't quite what it seems only those involved will know for sure but if D'Angelo does join then it definitely wouldn't be a bad thing to say the least ....(fingers crossed...eh).

US 'Soul24-7' Party set for November

As one of the organizers of this very special event, I am pleased to announced that myself alongside a host of other percipients of the "Soul24-7.com" family will be holding the 1st annual US "Soul24-7.com" Soul party to take place in the Washington DC area this coming November 2 - 4th (we feel this date would best fit everyone's schedule).

Soul 24-7 is the first internet radio station to broadcast soul music (and I do mean soul music) 24 hours 7 days a week (hence the name) and with the success of their 1st annual "Soul bash" to commemorate their one anniversary of the station being on the air, soul fans alike thought it only fitting to celebrate with a party on US soil as well. Some of the DJs from the station will make the trip across the pond to spin at the party alongside myself and other jocks to be comfirmed. Stay tuned to this newsletter for more info or click on the image to go to their site. Thanks to Mike Wheeler and Claudia for all of your hard work and dedication in getting this to come together..

Michael Jackson's 'Rock my world' will be the lead-off single from 'Invincible'

It's official - Michael Jackson the king of Pop will make the uptempo dance track "Rock My World" his first release and single release from his upcoming 'Invinciible' album. The song's producer is rumored to be Rodney Jenkins but neither he or anyone at Epic would confirm who is (why all the hush hush about the producer? is beyond me)

The album has the likes of Teddy Riley, R - Kelly and Raphael Saadiq serving as producers  and according to MJ's fan based site planetjackson.com the famed gloved one's favourite track on the album is "Unbreakable," another upbeat track but again no producer given (don't figure). The album is said to additionally include the passionate "Cry" produced by R - Kelly  the surprisingly, electric club song "2000 Watts"; and a posthumous rap from the late Notorious B.I.G of the hip hop world.

There's no street date for the single as of yet but the album has a tentitive date set for September 25th though again no one at Epic would comfirm this as the official date.  Keep you posted.
