           70s
soul on Atlantic gets the 'remix' touch

             Throughout
the years, there comes a time when record labels gets the bright
idea to revive pre-modern classic tracks from their vaults and give
them a more modern day vamp.
Such is the case with Atlantic Records
where they have taken a dab at revamping 70s-era soul, funk and
jazz performed by some of the top artists of the day and retooled
them with some of today's contemporary remixers.

 The set dubbed 'Atlantiquity'
takes on the material from the likes of legends such as Donny
              Hathaway, Carmen McCrae,
              Sister Sledge and Chic
and redefined their biggest hits for the dance floor under the watchful
eye of Los Angeles radio/club DJ Garth
              Trinidad.

"Each remixer has a unique style, and I picked tracks according
to their musical personalities, this was an amazing way for all
the DJs to pay homage to artists that have influenced them and introduce
these classic artists to a younger generation." Trinidad says
of selecting material for the likes of Philly native King
              Britt, Daz-I-Kue
and Jurassic 5 DJ Nu-Mark to
              give new life to.

 Kleeer's 'Tonight'
sees Sa-Ra calling on the talents
              of Me'Shell Ndegeocello to add
              new bass lines. Nu-Mark revisits
               Eddie Harris's 'Bold
              and Black', while Attica Blues
              Charlie Dark, reshapes the Average
White Band's 'Pick Up the Pieces'.

"Charlie didn't just go in and flip the beat," Trinidad
says. "He went in and used all the existing elements of the
song to create something completely new, which really embodies the
              spirit of this project."

In addition to the CD release which will be out on May 10, a two-LP
vinyl version will be issued May 24, with an extended version of
               King Britt's remix of Chic's
              'A Warm Summer Night'.

              Could
            Ashanti be another 'Winoda Ryder'?__________________________________________________________________

Could it be that the 1st lady of 'The
Inc' be labeled a thief like the now fames actress
                 Wynoda Ryder? Sultry R&B
                singer Ashanti is said to
be keeping clothes that don't belong to her causing the designer
                to label her.
 The singer's stylist, Rosie Michel,
pulled items from young fashion designer Nicole
Romano's New York showroom back in Nov. but the jewelry
and clothing, worth over $2,000, has yet to be returned to her.
Since then, Romano and her staff have placed repeated calls to
Michel, her assistant and even Ashanti's record label to try to
locate the missing merchandise but to no aveil. Michel said that
the clothing and accessories were to be used for shooting a TV
                commercial.
 Another fashion house stated
that "We have never had that problem with Ashanti, but then,
we don't let her borrow everything that she wants." According to Romano, Michel
was not gracious when she contacted her and even hung up on her
when she tried to collect but the sylist denies there are any
problems. "We have always returned every single item that
we've borrowed on behalf of Ashanti. We are often traveling and
sometimes that hampers our ability to return everything by the
next day, but there has never been a case where we haven't returned
everything borrowed." Michel was less than gracious, said
                the source. "
Romano said ''It's been months and even Ashanti's label (The Inc)
hasn't been able to wrangle an explanation or payment for the
missing goods. We've never had such a poor experience working
                with a celebrity or stylist."
