20 years later: the late Marvin Gaye is remembered

Paying tribute - Marvin GayeUnder tragic circumstances as with death, most of us show our sorrow and regret for the person but when it deals with legends, those who has effected our lives, we show deep appreciation and celebration. Such is the case for the late but great singer/songwriter Marvin Gaye.

It was on April 1st 1984 that the singer died and this year marks the 20th anniversary of his death. He was shot and killed by his father, Marvin Gaye Sr., after the two were having an argument at their Los Angeles home, he was just 44 years old.

Fans and friends of Marvin Gaye gathered in front of the singer's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this past Saturday to pay tribute to him 20 years on after his untimely demise.
"We sang some of his songs, we talked about how his music touched our lives, and had a good time," said Ron Brewington, executive director of the Los Angeles chapter of the Motown Alumni Association. Brewington said about 250 people attended the tribute, including Motown Records singers Brenda Holloway and Mable John; Betty Kelly (once an original member of Martha and The Vandellas), songwriter Janie Bradford, Claudette Robinson (herself a former member of The Miracles) and Kitty Sears, Gaye's personal assistant for 15 years.

Some of his most famous songs like 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine', 'What's Going On' and 'Pride and Joy' were played during the tribute.

"We reminisced and talked about how the music he made years ago are still relevant today," Brewington said. "And I thanked Marvin for the fun his music has provided to me."

George Michael's latest - it's simply 'Amazin'

He's back - George MichaelAfter putting all his troubles behind him with former label Sony Records, George Michael is back in a major way with a new label in Geffen/Virgin and a phat brand new album called 'Patience'. The album his seventh solo effort features a remix of 'Freeek' the song that caused quite a stir with the political heads of state back in 2002 and the latest single 'Amazin'

In typical fashion George has come up trumps again with another winner in 'Amazin' It borders closely to his 1996 hit 'Fast Love', with the exception of the hook but nevertheless a smashing track. The song hit radio this week and the single will be in stores in a couple of weeks with a pt. 1 and 2 available.

Born. Georgios (Yorgos) Kyriacos Panayiotou, George Michael formed the duo Wham (with Andrew Ridgely) in 1981 and released their debut 'Fantastic' which surfaced the hits Bad Boys and Young Guns (Go for it). They followed up with the appropriately titled 'Make it Big' which proved to be the groups biggest album with the monster hits 'Wake me up before you Go go' and the No. 1 ballad 'Careless Whisper'. The group dis banded in 1986 following the album 'The Final Chapter' a collection of all their hits. His new album is in stores now so if you're a fan - time to get it
