Jill Scott hospitalized with a throat infection

Philadelphia's beloved sweetheart of Neo Soul Jill Scott was hospitalized this past week on the eve of her opening tour date with Pop legend Sting. Jill who won the Soul Train Award for Best New Artist was taken in for a throat injection. A spokesperson for Jill said that she was suffering from a 102-degree fever when she was admitted to the hospital on the morning of May 6. She was scheduled to  kickoff Sting's tour on Saturday in Washington, D.C

Ms. Scott became ill after an allergy developed into a bad cold, which then lead to the lung infection. The 28-year-old songstress is expected to join the tour soon, her spokesperson said, but it's unknown when she'll be released from the hospital but doctors expect her to make a full recovery.

English born Joy Morrison the latest 'Neo Soul' star to shine

With the likes of Erykah Badu, Maxwell, D'Angelo, Jill Scott, Bilal among others leading the way in the Neo Soul movement one ponders just where are the English crop that is also pathing the way in this new gendre I call 'Neo Era Soul'. The fact remains that this gendre is nothing new to the homegrowns of Europe as this style of music has been natured there for the better part of a decade with the likes of Omar, Lewis Taylor, Loose Ends Mondo Grosso and more recently Hil St Soul, Attica Blues and Shaun Escoffery

But not to worry 'cos the Neo Era Soul is alive and well and flourishing rather nicely in the form of newcomer Joy Morrison. The 21-year-old native of Northampton in London shines with her debut single Run Away and ranks right up there with the likes of Erykah and India . She's just been signed to Trinity Records and will be making her live debut this very weekend when she plays London's Subterania club. If you like what India Arie brings to the table then look out for Joy.
