Mariah Carey jumps ship to join Virgin Records

The rumor is confirmed. Mariah Carey, the reigning queen of pop  leaves the label she has called home for the last 10 years. Columbia Records and Mariah in a joint statement to the press revealed that they have officially parted ways due to creative control. She was scheduled to release one more album (the soundtrack to her movie 'All that Glitters ') which Sony said they will drop from her contract.

No sooner was the ink dry on her statement to the press that Ms. Carey signed with Virgin Records home to the likes of Janet Jackson, Lenny Kravitz and D'Angelo to name a few. Her 1st  release will be the soundtrack 'All that Glitters ' which is due out in August both movie and soundtrack.

Sunshine Anderson: a new shining light

You're probably saying I haven't heard of her..... have you, well you will be hearing a lot more of her in the upcoming months and quite possibly a lot longer because Sunshine Anderson wants to be 'Your woman ' fellas and most likely will with her latest release 'Heard it all before

The Charlotte NC native was discovered while attending college at the North Carolina Central University "I was in line at the cafeteria, humming a tune, when a friend of Mike City’s approached me saying that he  knows that Mike City would love to hear my voice" says Sunshine with a laugh. "So Mike came over; I sang for him; we became fast friends and have worked together ever since."

The 22 track set is called 'Your Woman ' which by most is considered to be one of the hottest sets released so far this year with a mixture of RNB and hip hop beats harmonized by her soul and gospel tenor. The single is now getting major radio airplay and will feature remixes on the CD single format.

The girls of 'Destiny' aim to show they are true 'Survivers'

The world's reigning princesses of pop and RNB Destiny's Child are back (as if they ever left to begin with) as they get set to release their 3rd LP 'Survivor ' on Columbia Records. Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle have had a phenomenal year winning America Music Awards and Grammy's among other awards and are currently on a world wind tour spreading across North America and Europe!

The album sees the return of Rodney Jenkins as co - executive producer alongside her manager/father Matthrew Knowles as well as Beyonce herself serving as both producer and executive producer The lead off single will be the title cut that the girls just finished shooting the video for which went into full rotation on MTV and BET. The release date for the album is May 1st

Faith Evans returns with her latest effort 'Can't believe'

Bad Boy's reigning queen Faith Evans returns to the spotlight with her latest effort 'Can't believe '. The single features label mate Carl Thomas who lends his vocal talents for duet duties.  Produced by Shaun 'Puffy' Combs and written by Mario Winans the track is a bubbly little RNB song ripe for the picking at radio level and will no doubt do well there.

Puffy stays true to form by sampling a track from Nas to boost up the bass line on this one but again I'm sure radio formats won't pass up on it. The single will be released on April 17th but the album date is yet to be announced  Once it's available it I'll post it in the next newsletter

Maxwell's 'Now' delayed until further notice

Maxwell's latest release 'Get to know ya ' is scorching up the airways as radio stations across the country continue to add the track to their playlist. However the man's 3rd studio release LP called 'Now' is rumoured to be delayed yet again. It seems that Maxwell has yet to turn in the full length, finished product to the record label which draws concern to the studio heads at Columbia.

What's funny is that a similar incident happened with his last release 'Embryo' where the album was slated for release in Jan of 99 but was set back because it was not turned in on time and it looks like a repeat performance may be at hand. Who knows what's going on there, one can only hope that if the single is any indication as to what's in for on the full length then its well worth waiting for.
